Apple

Pros:
- astounding financial benefits, great healthcare

Cons:

- too many cultists
- closed culture with extremely compartmentalized information, working on a small piece of the puzzle, with reduced ability to demonstrate true value, unless already high up.
- collaboration across teams is made unusually difficult and doesn’t seem encouraged.
- not remote friendly -- making everyone go back

Hi,
I got selected in Nesh Technologies, Chennai. As an iOS developer
I would like to know more about company and work culture. Anybody knows about the company?

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

⚡️NEW IDEA⚡️
Let's start a thread to help each other get out of toxic cultures?

Out of the 50 companies we have represented here in this bowl, how many are treating their people well?

In the original thread, Cisco was the only one that seemed to be doing right by people. Who else here would vouch for their company?

like

The Home Depot (from a previous vendor)

Cons:

- Interfaced with a few different people, all of whom seemed miserable.

- Very rigid brand — difficult to have fun.

- There’s not much trust or freedom for anyone. Just a cutthroat corporate prison.

- HQ built like a prison: few windows, thick security, & drab colors for miles. Their campus parking garage would experience its own rush hour gridlock with cars at a standstill waiting for the light outside to turn green so they could hop on 285

Coursera:

Cons:
- Definitely toxic: talented people disappear without warning or explanation.
- Management aggressively micromanages with hidden agendas and unrealistic expectations.
- Very passive aggressive tactics used to drive results. Miserable experience.

Pros: ?

like

Twitter

Pros:
- worked there for 8yrs had a very positive experience
(GSO supporting TCS)

Cons:
- bullying and toxic culture
- HR is no help, ppl need to get lawyers involved
(from someone within TCS)

Let's make this bowl a safe place for us to give our honest feedback about a company without it being edited or buried.

To make it easier to search: create a post for the company you want to review, adding your pros and cons!

like

Salesforce

Pros:

- great for full time employees

Cons:

- contractors are treated like trash and don't feel included

Amazon:

Cons:
Software engineers can easily work 50-70h/week.
They are constantly trying to get the most out of you.

Pros:
You might be able to transfer teams and life will be good again? :D

Facebook

Pros:
- pays very well and has good perks

Cons:
- Sr. VoIP Engineer w/ their head in the sand
- Totally bias management
- Poor content moderation, extremist content, inauthentic engagement, weakening democratic norms, amplifying divisive rhetoric, prolific scams, risk of identity theft... the list goes on and on.

Wunderman Thompson

Cons:

SoCal office is a hot mess

Pros?

Netflix

Pros: ?

Cons:
- culture deck is something else: if they think they can do better than you, they will just let you go

- they think they’re the Yankees: if you’re batting.385, but they think there is someone out there who can bat .400, you’re going to get fired

- they will openly discuss at a meeting why you suck

- Reed Hastings' leadership style was once described as being "unencumbered by emotion". A VP once told him he's not a good listener and tends to be unempathetic.
