Lots of people will give notice the last day before the holiday break so they are out 10 days back 2 and gone.
So many offices will have sudden needs in early January. Hit them hard as they are staring at busy season with not enough folks and those that are left are panicking about the workload getting pushed to them. The firm will never be more eager to hire you quickly.
If you were just laid off, an employment gap around the holidays is the least of your worries. You could be out of work for months with the way things are going. There's no indication that things will improve in the new year. Your main concern now is to make sure you get your unemployment claim in, don't dawdle on that or you'll be kicking yourself in the spring.
You need to explain how you got laid off. Timing is not important unless the GAP is really long.
Relax. Shitty economy where 1 in 8 accountants has or will be laid off. Very few people are getting chopped for bad performance. Just pure economics and bad luck. What’s important is that you have good skills and people you used to work with have good things to say about you.
I was laid off mid November 2024 and was able to get a job lined up by December 2024. For the month difference the jobs I interviewed for didn’t seem to care. Start making tweaks to your resume and start getting in touch with recruiters. Take a breath you got this!
Hiring basically freezes in November and December anyway. A gap during that time almost feels assumed. I wouldn’t panic until it turns into like a year with no explanation.
