Here’s a thought as a minority. I realized that if companies rely on referrals a lot, you’re just reinforcing what the talent pool looks like (generally) because typically similar people hang out with each other.
In an ideal world, I would just do a blind application - no resume, no names. Just assign a number and have candidates answer a few thoughtful questions about how they’d solve a problem or what their thoughts are on this topic etc.
Look over the answers and pick candidates from to interview from that. Pure meritocracy.
Or make an online competition submission via social media and have people create a 1-2 min video etc.
How about just hosting a quarterly event at your HQ and just make it an actual event where people can just come in person instead of a resume dump ?
@the BRANDarchist thanks for replying. I’m very interested. We are involved in some diversity-specific events, but I’m always open to adding more to the pot.
There are many approaches including involving your company in diversity-specific events and looking outside of the free portfolio schools everyone else looks at.
I know of multiple places if you're interested.
OP: If you send a DM to the company Twitter account, I can make sure my boss can help you with more information.
