Absolutely not. I’m always looking to bring in the best I can get, and never want to be the “smartest in the room”. I had many bad bosses coming up that managed down and stifled anyone who threatened their sense of superiority, and I’ve tried hard to avoid the same pitfalls. It’s really good you’ve identified this behavior and are working to correct it. You’ll be better for it.
amen to this. My first boss was someone who wouldn't allow Jr. creatives shine brighter than he did, even if the Jr's had better ideas. His company didn't do well in the long run.... no surpise.
Props to you for openly admitting it but in my case, I'm always thrilled to have smarter, better people than me in the team. I've noticed that I learn and get inspired the most from my junior creatives. They're the most driven and their ideas are the freshest. So out of an honestly selfish need, I'm always looking out for the freshest talent out there.
Wow, I really felt that. I’ve definitely caught myself leaning toward “safe” choices too, people who wouldn’t rock the boat or outshine the team. It’s hard to admit, but yeah, ego can sneak in. Appreciate you being honest, it’s making me reflect on my own mindset.
Wow I have never really thought about this but I have defintiely done the same thing. I don't think it was intentional because I didn't realize I had done it until just now but I have defintiely played it safe before.
