I just started a new role and found out that fully remote actually means come in whenever the MD feels like having a meeting. This wasn't in the contract, but it's clearly the unwritten rule of the office culture here. My commute is over an hour each way, so these random office days are costing me a fortune in gas and lost time. Should I stand my ground on the remote agreement, or is that a quick way to get on the do not promote list?

Find a tactful middle ground. Volunteer to show up for the really important meetings, ask to attend via Zoom for the run-of-the-mill ones. If they push back, cite your contract and commute time. You wouldn't have accepted the role if you knew you were going to regularly be spending 2 hours in the car each day.

I would bring it up to my manager and ask what expectations are, and then propose something that could be a reasonable middle ground

At best, it’s a quick way not to get promoted. At worst, it’s putting you on the layoff list. I don’t want to be that pessimistic, but that is the truth. It is a lot easier for them to let people go when they don’t see you.

You can stand your ground but it might look bad if you’re the only one that doesn’t come in while everyone else does. It can cause a missed promotion

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
