A summary can work as a headline, and it can, if done well, get someone to actually read the resume. People spend a lot of time agonizing over their resumes, and they overlook the fact that someone else will give it a few seconds of skimming and scanning when they first see it. So if you can mention some notable things in a summary up top, you've got a chance of grabbing someone's attention.
There is no logical need for a summary or an objective on your résumé, especially if your resume is only a page or two. The hiring manager will get the gist and everyone knows what the objections are so just save your time and space on the resume.
