Shrinkage is a sign of good hair health. If your curls are healthy and moisturized, they shrink up and unfortunately not much you can do to prevent it. Its absolutely not unusual to have the multiple hair textures and porosities on your hair.
I have been using the Curly Chemist PMP method which I like a lot. She's a Black woman chemist on YT and she talks about everything from a science perspective
Thank you! I’ve never heard of her and will def check her YT page
You need to get a curly cut
This happened to me before I started getting curly cuts, but I do not recommend if you still plan to wear your hair straight from time to time, as a curly cut may make the straight look uneven lol 🙄🤦🏾♀️
I haven't had a full blow out or flat iron in like 7years, so the curly cut is the way for me to get trimmed
Agree with what others have said, you need to get your hair cut while curly for it to be even while curly. Don’t bother if you mostly wear your hair straight. The other option is to stretch your shorter sections once you’ve styled and dried your hair. I use a blow dryer at my roots and then shape my hair how I want it to be.
It’s so frustrating because I’ll have my hair half up and down and the part that’s down, it looks like half of my hair is longer and thinner and, the part closer to my roots looks shorter and thicker. Any advice on what products or techniques have worked for you? I think I have high porosity, but if any of you also relate to this with the shrinkage and porosity, what has worked for you? It’s so odd that for the last few years more and more of my nape hair is shrinking, and then I don’t realize when I get a hair cut, it will shrink even more (even tho it’s cut evenly.) I avoided heat all of last summer and used it a few times in the winter, and have not used it since January of this year. Any advice will be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽
