This happened to me. I was locked in to essentially creating the same huge project every year — moving copy around without really making anything i was proud of. I had to say “no” to too many great creative opportunities because I was busy with this one client. The amount I charged them had stagnated. There was no financial or creative growth. So I essentially gave them a month’s notice. It was a well known loudspeaker company. No regrets. The work that replaced them propelled me upward just as the loudspeaker co’s work had done early on.
This is why I only take short term projects. You never know if something is going to be a “fit” so I like having an end date in sight (which the client can always opt to extend)
