Have my closing interview with Accenture next week. So far the Director and MD I have met with have both liked me and the recruiter has said that they have both given me a thumbs up and that the upcoming closing interview with the MD is just a conversation. From my research I’ve also read that it’s just a sanity check to make sure I’m not a nutcase. Of course anything can happen, but I’m expecting an offer. (Cont)

I don’t have good advice about how to approach the conversation (if there are people at your firm who are or have been part time, it might be a good idea to ask them in case they can give you specific insight into your firm or the dynamics/politics to be aware of), but I was warned that you should make sure there’s an escape hatch / a way to get paid more if you end up working more.
Good advice re: the escape hatch.
I do not know if anyone has ever gone part time at my firm. I do not even know if it’s a possibility — it might not be. Just looking for insight on how to even start this conversation.

Just schedule a call with someone (prob your practice group chair) and tell them you’re interested in a flexible schedule for some period of time after you return from leave. Tell them what you envision—1 day off per week etc.
Working less than 3 days a week is prob too big of an ask.
Even if you want it to be permanent, I would start with an initial ask of a year or something. You can always go from there.
Rising Star
Yes, Fridays, because I was already teleworking that day and I thought it would be the easiest ask.
I was in the same boat, and just sat down with the partner I worked for and explained I needed to take a step back for my sanity and health. I went down to 30/wk billing, signed a new compensation agreement (fair, but less than full time pay), and have been sticking with that for a year now. I go in the office a few days a week, and work from home a few. Still have my title, office, responsibilities, but I make sure there’s flexibility in my schedule for my kid and husband and overall health. Good luck! If they’re a good firm they’ll understand ❤️
A5: How do your days shake out at 30 hours a week? Are you a litigator? If yes, does your work schedule change week to week? How old was your child when you asked for reduced hours? How old is your child now?
Sorry about all the questions but I am very curious.
I am also at a mid law firm that primarily does insurance defense.

Wishing you luck with this! I expect to want to do the same soon
Thank you. I am not sure this is even an option at my firm but would love if is was. I do not want to stop working completely but would love to go part time.
In addition to identifying how many days you would like to work and/or wfh days, you can ask for 3/4 billable hour requirement.

I asked for 2 WFH days. They granted it.

Yeah I worked the full two days. It was when my daughter was born, 3 years ago. She is in daycare now :)
If you’re in big law, every firm as far as I’m aware allows reduced hours.
I’m not in big law. But if you are and have asked for reduced hours, I would love so insight on how you go about setting boundaries and sticking to the reduced hour schedule.
