I need some advice:

I got laid off from a federal agency in March and have finally received an offer, but it’s to be a regulatory and investigations attorney at one of the big health insurance companies (think: UnitedHealth or Cigna).

I won’t be working on anything involving claims and billing, so im not morally opposed to the role. However, I don’t really want to work in insurance forever. Will this job pigeonhole me or would I be able to switch to a similar role at a tech firm?

I think you’ll be able to move to a firm if you wanted - lots of people go in house and then to firms. Also, I did a summer internship at Aetna during law school and it was great (my area of practice was healthcare and insurance).

DMing you if you don’t mind!

I think most of the time you hear people say insurance is an industry you get “stuck” in is when people are doing very insurance specific work, named insurance claims defense. I don’t think the role you’re contemplating will be limiting in the future in any material way.

Thank you!

I know someone who had a similar job, and then pivoted to become a litigator who sues insurance companies. He is on the right side of the issue now, and very successful.

Know someone who did this as well and was very successful

On the bright side, healthcare law should be a pretty secure area for awhile

(I’m asking here, because when I asked in the other bowls, I got snarky comments about denying coverage)

As a healthcare attorney at a AM law 25 firm who sues insurance companies regularly, I’d just caution you about conflicts. If you want to stay in the healthcare arena after working for the insurance company, they’re really aggressive about pursuing conflicts of interest (I.e. if a firm has a walled off attorney that previously worked on a matter for a plan, they move to exclude our whole firm on the basis of conflicts). As a result we can’t hire anyone who has done any significant health plan work. May not impact your career goals, but something to consider

I hadn’t considered this, thank you for raising it!

I’m relocating to London and would love to hear recommendations on neighborhoods. I am looking for an “urban village” feel (small coffee shops, not very touristy, can walk a dog and stroller) with a budget of 3K for a 1-2 bdr. My commute would be into Soho. I am currently looking at Notting Hill, Chelsea, and St John Woods, but I won’t be able to visit before my move. Any neighborhood recs?

I had requested a super brutal resume review a couple of days back here and got some excellent feedback. Added indents and cut down content (there was a lot more text earlier) according to suggestions.

Will be extremely grateful for an additional review with the changes. I am looking for business intelligence and business analyst roles.

I am also looking for a referral in Deloitte +kpmg for a systems/bi analyst role, will be super grateful for some help there too.
