I occasionally get contacted by recruiters for board advisory roles. The latest one says “I help connect pre-seed, seed & series A startups/scaleups to prospective NEDs, board advisors, and fractionals.” What is the model and compensation expectations in this situation? Appreciate hearing your experience and advice.

Most of them want you to pay for their service. I delete all these requests, I only NED for companies I know well.

One of them charges $17K. They invited me to a lunch and learn meeting, there were 4 other people on the call, and then one of the other invitees started to ask me questions like "Why haven't you joined? What's preventing you from moving ahead? Seemed like she worked for the company...

Many of those have a “training platform” that you need to get on for which they will charge a sizeable fee as it increases your chances of getting to that level. I explored one and figured it out within 10 mins of the first call that was to get to know me better… it might be a model for some but definitely not for me.

What do you do over your schools winter break? How long is it? I have almost 2 full weeks and I'm debating between doing a ton of prep or actually trying to relax. 2nd year teacher and last year was mostly virtual so I had more "free" time to get stuff together.
