I once saw someone get let go because they were too efficient. Seriously. Finished work early, never missed a deadline, even helped clean up other people’s messes. But instead of being rewarded, they were told their pace made others look bad and created pressure. That was the moment I realized being great at your job can paint a target on your back. How do you deal with that? I need to be good at my job, but not too good?

My partner saw that he was getting a lot more tickets done in his IT role than his colleagues and sensed this could be an issue, so he consciously slowed down. Still gets appreciation gift cards but without making his colleagues look super slow or bad. So slow it down a bit.

Woah haven’t heard of this before sounds like jealousy

I was actually just talking about this with friends. We run an agile scrum shop and it seems teams want to do the bare minimum work per sprint so team members get told to slow down or hold back work constantly. I could see this leading to firing for being to good but then I’d personally find a lawyer to sue for wrongful termination. Let them explain to a judge I was too good at my job!

My manager always says I'm doing well and I got promoted from SE I to SE II a few months back. I'm not sure if it's imposter syndrome or not but I just don't feel confident about interviewing at other places
