Oh sure, because sales promos never have an end date, right? I have lost count of how many times I have been asked to time travel for a discount. You handled it better than most would. Do you ever wonder if offering a small discount just encourages the next meltdown though? Curious how you usually decide when to give in.
I do worry it sets a precedent, but sometimes it’s worth it to avoid a full-blown scene.
I've had that happen. The person will usually not want to buy the item, but will want to know when it's going on sale again. I'll usually tell them some version of "I don't know, but it does go on sale now and then so watch the ads for it." That defuses the situation, though, to be honest, I may have no idea what I'm talking about.
Haha, same here! I usually just give them the “keep an eye on ads” line too. It’s like we’re all pretending we know the schedule when we really don’t.
We used to have a price match policy, which had been discontinued but people still asked about it constantly. Which is fair, the majority of people are nice about it. Every once in a while though I get somebody livid that I can’t match so and so’s price down the road.
Totally get that. People really hang onto those old policies! I swear they remember them better than the staff does.
Oh yes, this kind of stuff happens allll the time. Customers also get mad when something that is on sale sells out and then the sale ends. They think we should still honor the sale days later because the item sold out when the sale was going on.
Later and immediatly.... what do you do when the sale is the focus and reason for the sale. Idk, I have made mistakes with this and did not honor, but gave other sale details
you did the right thing . Great job. Dealing with customers is not fun! You always keep in your mind. You don't wanna lose that customer and you do everything you can to make them happy, making that decision of that small discount was a great move. If you see that person again, do that very same thing then you know they live their life for doing that in every single store then you have an issue to deal with for upper management😀
