I recently had my year end review where my company gave me 7% increase in my salary which felt like very low to me especially after working for them for 5 years. I was expecting more and unfortunately they don't give any negotiation choice.

What is your increment percentage every year?

I'd sign up for 7% in a heartbeat. Mine has been 3% each year since I've been here. It's better than nothing, but it doesn't come close to keeping up with inflation.

That was my whole point. It does not keep up with inflation. I know it is not bad at all but I guess I was looking for a bit more.

Not going to lie, I would also love 7%. We normally get a 2-3% raise and that is if we are lucky. We can't negotiate a higher raise here either.

7% sounds great to me as well. When I was a Manager they even took a job title away and took the .25 an hour they paid away as well. I felt like a dirt bag when I delivered the news even though it was not my decision I thought it was petty.

I suppose I see your point. In the grand scheme of things, a 7% raise probably isn’t a lot. However, it is a hell of a lot more than I’ve ever got. We get a one percent annual raise if we do well on our performance review.

One percent sounds bad. But like you said the whole point is to keep up with inflation. From that point of view 7% sounded bad.

I would love 7%!!! I get 2% every year...essentially a pay-cut.

Thank you for saying this. It feels like I have got a good percentage.

after 5 years can definitely feel underwhelming, especially when you’ve been consistent and loyal. My increments have varied a lot depending on the company, some years it’s been small like that, other years closer to double digits.

See that what I am trying to say. I have been with my bank for the last 5 years and from that poiny of view 7% did not feel justified. But I guess it is what it is.

That’s honestly great especially that most of us don’t get that much of a raise. My company usually gives 3% raises but we can also negotiate if we are not satisfied with the number.

Thats great that you ca negotiate the numbers. Thats what my complaint is that my company does not allow negotiation.

7% is pretty good. I got 3% last year, and was shocked I got that much.

Thank you for saying that it is a good number. I feel more satisfied now.

Hey guys! Currently in WM ops at Morgan Stanley for the past 1 year dealing with alternative lending, I’m super underpaid with 3 years of experience which is very frustrating. (73k). Have been at Morgan for 1 year and looking to come over to JPM for an ideal pay bump, but would like to get into IB type roll. Any insight on what I should expect or how to go about applying? Maybe even getting referred? I have a deep knowledge of investments and always felt inclined to go down this route.

Hello everyone!
I recently found out that I was being paid less than everyone in the team (more than 25% gap to more expe teammates, around 15% less than new hires)
We all had the same responsibilities, I consider I even had a heavier workload (talking in past tense since I very recently made an internal move).
Things to consider:
On a work visa
Non-white
Non-male
What would you recommend doing?
Keeping it to myself?
Speaking up? How? With who?
