I think it's a good goal to try and get a promotion every 2-3 years. I wouldn't say that it's necessarily going to hurt your career in the immediate sense but if you stayed there a long time without a promotion it could hurt you. Keep your eyes open for other opportunities!
Yes, that was definitely my goal when I first entered into insurance and did it at my older company (much larger). Here, though, it appears most people don’t get their first promotion until the 5.5 to 8 year mark, which is disappointing. A lot of folks after that seem to either stay in the senior adjuster role long term, change departments, or look at the supervisor spot around the 10-12 year mark. It’s unfortunate, but I see what you’re getting at for potential long term issues.
At small companies, it can be much harder to be promoted. That is honestly one of the benefits of a bigger company. I would probably be looking for something at a bigger company if I were you.
