I am also given the week after Xmas off. if my toddlers are sick I can work at home with them. Interviewing w fortune 500 that offers 15 pto days that have to use for sick days too.Strictly in office job 9-5 and dress bus.prof. These bad benefits? Outdated culture?I am a seasoned professional. Seems tough.
Am I doing a mistake? Going from PwC to Accenture for $45K more (113 Vs 158), and a role that’s better aligned with what I was doing before joining & what I want to be doing? I joined PwC for the experience and the exit opportunity it can provide me in the future, but it’s hard not to accept this role from Accenture! Decision need to be made by end of this week….

Welcome to leadership. They are testing you. If it were me, I would happily train the other to show your boss you have the skills required to lead the team in the near future. Look at it as a compliment, not added work
If you want to run the department, you’re going to be asked to step up. If you were training multiple people, for this role at the same time, then I would feel that it is warranted. Right now it’s one person. Yes, in the short term, you will be doing more work with this training in addition to your current assignments. In the long term I would hope the load lightens a bit, as your new individual becomes more autonomous, you’ll spend less time training them.
I wouldn’t expect a promotion or range. When we have a new team member everyone helps train that individual. Your issue is that you’re currently a team of one.
Again, if you want to run the department, this is an opportunity to prove you have what it takes. Seize this opportunity! You may have to be very flexible in how you train because everyone learns differently. This is also an opportunity to give this individual some work. We often have new hires sitting with almost nothing to do. We would assign them some of our low risk work that they would be able to try to complete. Show you can delegate (within reason), train, and prove yourself worthy of being a leader of this team.
Of course get the approval from your boss to delegate some of the work, after you have trained them on that topic/system.
Realize this is an opportunity to lose or help cement your future in the department.
