Have opportunity to work in my firm’s London satellite office for about a year and a half, and then come back to NY headquarters. In good standing with firm and have M&A and capital markets experience. Did not start traveling abroad until my bar trip (did not grow up with the money for trips like that) and think it would be a good personal and professional experience. Any thoughts / advice?

Why not? Do it while you don’t have any children (I’m assuming you don’t) and plan on staying with the firm in the medium term. Also London is cool and the US is a short-ish flight away.

Sounds like a golden opportunity. Go for it!

In your shoes, I would take the opportunity, but you do have room to ask questions. First off, would you be staffed out of NY, London or both? That will have an impact on your client and partner relationships (and your sleep schedule). Secondly, will the firm provide the opportunity to come back to NY for certain events, trainings, etc. to ensure that you remain connected?

like

How did you come across this opportunity?

I would also do this, but fwiw I’ve heard London biglaw works US cap markets attorneys harder than NYC does. Can also be easy to get lonely time zones and a country away from friends and family.

Just spent a week at Revelstoke BC and that place is ridiculous! They already had 27’ of snow so far this season and it snowed every day we were there. Not for beginners and endless tree skiing and cliff hucking (if interested). Great town vibe and worth the effort to get there. Visited Fernie BC on my last trip and highly recommend that place too!

Good Morning. Here's my dilemma. I have an approved H1B application which got picked up in 2019-20 lot and approved in Jan 2020, before the world went into lockdown. The stamping process was initiated but it couldn't complete as the USCIS offices were shutdown die to the pandemic. I have watched patiently about all the regulations Trump Administration brought in to deny any entry to H1B applicants who weren't already working in the states or who were waiting to return.

Question. I am a female POC. I’m curious what non-poc think about black women who wear hair colors other than natural black-brown in the workplace? I’m not talking about outlandish colors like pink, blue, green etc… The hair colors I’m referring to are like honey blonde ombré or balayage and the current trendy copper color. Thoughts?

I recently was let go (in lieu of accepting my two weeks) and I should have received my March expense check by the end of April per the employment agreement (submitted the report April 1, let go before mid April). I have emailed HR but haven't heard anything. I've got a feeling someone at the top is putting a hold on it.

How do I get my money from them? It's a few hundred dollars

So I get that in a corporate set up, you are supposed to be sharp and witty and think on your feet. Trouble is, I am extremely slow with comebacks. (Think Ross in Friends/Amy in B99) at the crunch moment, I generally end up not being able to give a good roast back. Unfortunately the best of them come to me like a few hours later (dinner/shower/TV) and I am left ruing and amazing opportunity to have gotten one back. I am awful at jibes and roasts.

Anyone else suffer from this?

I’m thinking about making the switch myself but I don’t have a digital background.
