I used to think staying late and overdelivering would eventually earn respect, instead, it just made me the go to person for extra work. Learning to set boundaries felt uncomfortable at first but freeing. How did you first realize your workplace was taking advantage of you?

I don't mean to sound harsh, but my experiences recently are mine no one else's.
When I moved from E/E to M/E, then to High M/M, I ended up doing everyone’s work as a cleaner/fixer for the team. I also watched the same people receive Exceeds ratings even though they progressed in areas different from mine, and included in their work. This left me very discouraged, and I felt penalized. No one was held accountable for their shortcomings. It turns out the process is subjective, and no matter how you write up performance reviews, there are always selective (discriminatory) practices hidden behind the scenes.
You need to set boundaries and also learn to say "no" in a win win way without disparaging your own work or others. I hope this helps, it's not ideal, and in the current state is unattainable and will lead to burnout.

I almost didn't. It took me intense competition , frenemy to understand it.

I was over staying most days, my family was questioning it silently. Was being too flexible - adopting any roles in the name of "learning" but in reality it was smart manipulation to divert their work to me. And I was never truly compensated for that. Not even a certificate/award.

I guess I was too insecure in my mind tosay NO.

But saying NO is truly powerful. I can now understand how much trouble I could have avoided if I just stick to my role and little bit of time decipline.

I’m sorry they took advantage of you too. That wasn’t fair.

Definitely staying late all the time as well. Usually working through lunch breaks for no reason, it’s the little things like that that really add up

100% it’s hard when staying late becomes a common thing. Just start slow with setting boundaries but also don’t let people take advantage of your niceness

This is gonna sound super bigheaded & egotistical but I promise it’s coming from a humble place

I’m what you could call an over achiever. Damn near straight A’s all my life without really trying. Graduated school straight to a six figure job, wrapping up my masters, and I’m in real estate & stocks. I work out often, so I’m fit, and I’m considered a “chad” I guess you could say

I get a lot of praise for these things and sometimes I just don’t know what to say. I say thank you of course (cont)

Been for a company for over 2years. The executive team is very much a boy's club. There are a few women in management roles but zero ethnicity diversity there. I raised my concern to HR in feb. And they are just now deciding to do something about it. They want me (white female) to put together a diversity committee. Any suggestions on how to go about it? How to attract volunteers to the committee? I want to make sure I get the right people involved in this, to push for changes.
