what was the term of your original deal? Have you had a lawyer look at the new revised terms they have put forth. If they are forcing you into a new deal, remember that this is a negotiation. If you agree to a possible comp. restructure can you gain elsewhere more paid vacation, higher base/better benefits/higher car allowance or even equity in the company as examples?
Well, it was not a “term”. And there is not a “contract”. It was an offer email. I said yes. We started. Had the “negotiation” of which there was no negotiation. No option for restructure. He made up his mind and unwilling to change it. He feels he is giving me more things to sell, more marketing dollars to drive sales, and that should be enough. Really have no option but to just proceed.
Please tell me your thoughts on the fairness and/or reality of this type of situation. I feel as though I knocked the cover off the ball and my reward is a restructuring of my original deal.
I would say that if he's positioning it that way tell him you want something in writing on company letterhead so that the parameters and expectations are clear and concise going forward. Then have a Lawyer review it. A letter of employment acts as protection for both the employer and employee
