I was told “the commission is uncapped,” then shown a structure with so many conditions it might as well be capped. I nodded, but my brain was doing maths. I'm not sure this is worth my time anymore.. any advice?

That's always a red flag and you're wise to be cautious. If the compensation structure has a lot of complicated conditions and clawbacks and odd provisions you could be getting into a pretty messy situation. That's not to say it won't work out in your favor, but those are things to consider quite seriously.

I agree. When “uncapped” comes with layers of conditions, it feels capped in practice. I have learned that if I need a spreadsheet to understand my pay, the risk is probably sitting with me, not the company.

Agreed- and lesson learned to read the employee manual. It could be dictated your commission your last month may not be deemed earned. Or if the words must be in “good order” exists is a red flag for they can come up with any excuse to not paid commissions.

This is such an important point. I have seen “good order” wording used far too loosely. If commission can be withheld at exit or reinterpreted later, it is not really commission, it is discretionary pay dressed up.

It does sound like a scam to me. The company makes it sound like you can earn so much money but will do everything possible to ensure you can’t. I would do more research. Look up what past employees have said about this payment structure.

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house. They told me to focus on contract management, which I have been doing for the past year. Now that I have, are there any sites besides “jobscan” that I can use to make sure my resume fits the job descriptions? Does anybody know any recruiters that could help me, as well?
