If you’re in the US and looking for new opportunities, are you willing to consider roles in Florida, Texas, or other states targeting women’s rights (not to mention the rights of other groups), or are they “off the table”? How is the current political landscape in America influencing your job search? Curious if it’s just me.

I’m unwilling to move because of family. If I were to move, likely Texas and Florida would be locations I’d consider because my husband’s company has locations there (and I’m not ready to be the sole breadwinner).

Personally, I’d move to those locations over moving to a city with a lot of high crime or moving to a place with unsustainable costs (like California). To me, it’s about lifestyle needs - but I’m a mom and prioritize giving my kids a specific life.

I understand, but that's the things, break ins happen too often, here too. And people get shot here just for making a mistake while driving or for others making mistakes while driving and being incapable of accepting that they were the ones in the wrong. Not to mention how schools here get more regressive as the months go by. My daughter's learned things in 7th grade that I learned in 4th. That seems ridiculous to me. But yes each person has their own perspective. I was just letting you know that Florida is not that great.

Grew up and still live in New England. For a time I would have considered relocating but not anymore. I am happy to live in MA where I feel confident my rights and the rights of all will continue to be protected. This month my town has had so many Pride events, most including children, and I love raising my son somewhere where he will grow up with respect for all people and allowing everyone to make decisions for their own bodies as the norm. That matters far more to me then any career opportunity.

My spouse and I have agreed that those states are off the table, we have female children and that just seems cruel to subject them to that situation.

Absolutely not moving anywhere where women’s and immigration issues are going on

like

Yes, absolutely. I live in Washington state and have confidence that my rights will be protected here. I will not consider moving anywhere in the south at this point since they've all either passed, or are considering passing, laws that will put my rights at risk. When recruiters reach out to me from companies in the south, I make sure to let them know that. Companies need to know how these states' laws are affecting their ability to recruit.

💯 agree that companies need to understand the impact like you said.

As a female executive, I am extremely happy to work in Texas.

Do you find working there provides benefits you wouldn’t find in other states? If so, can you share some examples? I’m honestly interested and curious.

I wouldn’t even consider moving to a Blue state. Too much crime, taxes, homeless, drug use. Red all the way!

Off the table for me - I know that states that target women's rights are also likely to underpay me and put me through other gendered idiocy. I have citizenship in another country (permanent resident of the US, married to a citizen) and I frequently consider moving there. I'm so sorry to see the direction that the US is heading and the upcoming election makes my blood run cold.

I am a female and would prefer to work in FL or Tx. NY is getting out of hand. I don't think it's a female issue I think it's a values alignment issue. It's getting increasingly more difficult in NY to practice HR. It's increasingly becoming more taxed and seeing less of a paycheck. The covid policies I endured and crime have definitely made me jaded. I love the job I do and the people I work with and the mission of company. And I have family. Change just 1 of the dynamics. Bye.

Off the table. I’m also not attending any conferences in those states and letting the organizers know why. And I used to live in FL and have traveled all throughout the South - but I won’t be going back now.

I would never move to a red state. If I didn’t have family here, I’d leave immediately (in Ohio) for a blue state. I work for a company that will fly me to a blue state if I ever need reproductive care which gives me some comfort but living here gives me more stress than living in a blue state.

Off the table. I live in Kansas and was so proud my conservative state voted to uphold current law instead of giving the legislation power to push through any abortion bills they choose. Don't get me wrong abortion is VERY regulated and it is an on going fight but there is hope and it is still legal. Unfortunately though LGBTQ+ rights have taken some serious steps back recently. I'm hoping after the next election people step up and vote at the Federal level to protect the basic human rights of all Americans so we can get Federal protections for all.

I'm already in Idaho, women's rights always sucked here.

I would not move there for those reasons and more. I have family in the state I live in currently, but if I were to relocate those states will not be considered.

I’ve always said I wouldn’t live in those states because I’m a cold weather person who can’t stand the heat, but the openly extreme politics of those states definitely adds to that. I was born, raised, and still live in very liberal states, though.

My company is remote but headquartered in Florida and I have a lot of colleagues based there. I’ve struggled with even working for a company that pays taxes there. I also recently learned that the stance that many colleagues have on a certain issue (an issue that really just comes down to being polite respecting other people) is vastly different from mine, and it’s making me consider how long I will be comfortable working with them.

I live in Tampa thankfully I am at a company who values diversity and women. However my job search is scaring me because I would only be leaving for more money- and I am concerned I wont find a culture like I have here. I have a fall back plan but end of the day my current salary is not cutting it because I want a house next year and the opportunity for a raise or promotion wouldn’t be happening for a few months minimum. I have been running out of time to convince myself to say so ive been leisurely applying elsewhere since April and only really ramping it up past few weeks.

To stay* not say. I lived in NY for over 10 years after growing up in MA- the break from the taxes and the snow is great down here and sure ive made good friends here that value diversity and rights for all… but its a rock and a hard place because I ended up finding a better position in FL. I moved in Sept 2021 had work lined up… applied hard core for positions from May to July 2022 and it took almost two months for discovery to hiring to get my current position. And i miss my friends and family up north too
