I’m also that person. I don’t have any sort of desire to manage people. My leaders always look stressed and over it. I like just coming in and going home with not extra mess to worry about.

People don’t want the headache of managing others, more hours and no overtime, irregular schedule, lack of personal life and leisure time. I don’t blame them.

It could been their home life and the flexibility that hourly allows. Or maybe they have other responsibilities that hourly works better for them.
I don't find it odd at all. I'm that person. I have no interest in taking on way more stress and responsibility for a small raise. I'm also not that good of a leader, and I think trying to navigate interpersonal situations all the time would make me lose my mind.
It could be a) don’t want the additional responsibility and/or b) seeing salaried people get abused for their wage.
