A good pair of pants and quality shirt with a nice belt and good shoes is all it takes to pull off a smart look. So it matters where u shop. Next time just observe the clothes and accessories. Stores like Nordstrom rack and Banana Republic have good styles at reasonable prices especially during a sale.
I am similar age and female. J Crew is my go to solution
An important thing is to make sure you have a good quality pair of shoes. Goodyear welted from one of the Northampton shoemakers or an American alternative would be Alden. Too often people ruin their professional clothing with footwear that shouldn’t be seen in an office environment.
I miss when Allen Edmunds used the Goodyear welts…. But agree!!
I’m not yet at your age thought not too far off, but in order for anyone to answer this question they’d need to know what the dress code is in the office and how your younger colleagues interpret it.
If you don’t want to wear a suit to the office, surely a shirt, trousers, and a jacket or blazer should suffice?
Keep a tie to hand in case you need to smarten up the look.
Check out Bonobos
I'm actually a lot older than you and don't even remotely worry about it. I dress sharp (for me) and let the younger folks dress as they want to. All professional / business casual.

50 and a cycle commuter, so I get away with a casual look, and a bit of ratty wear. I also store a cheap jakcket and sweater at the office for improptu zoom meetings. Then when I do show up in a good suit, everybody also knows it is deal time. I am approachable, and have a thing, so most of my office conversations not about work are defacto about people wanting to talk about biking.
Most important is fit. Buy off the rack the clothes that fit you the best and tailor appropriately. My tastes have evolved and will wear anything eg Boss, Ted Baker, Mizzen and Main, Uniqlo, Banana, suit supply.
Depends on your body type though. Try Uniqlo, Nordstrom Rack, off faith, Marshalls. Fit is what matters. I’ve actually started going the plain button down route ala McKinsey.
Don’t worry about what the kids are wearing.
Pay the money and get custom tailored shirts, jeans, slacks, blazer - fit and quality of material is more important.
Balani does a great job and is in most big cities. They can offer different price points in terms of brand names and various options.
I'm also 50 yo and have made a effort to donate my dated clothing and wear an updated wardrobe. I shop mostly at Macys when they have good sales. Its easy to dress well but be patient and wait for their good sales which are every few months. Get shirts and pants that fit very well. That's key. If it doesn't fit well don't compromise
