I'm a gov't attorney that really likes public and project finance. I'd like to specialize in these areas and realized that being in a firm may be the best way of doing so. Though I'm not interested in moving for another 24 months or so, how is the pivot from public to private practice? Also my ultimate goal is to be in-house with my govt experience and skills learned in private practice. Is this path unrealistic? Also, how long should I stay in private practice before moving to in-house?

Government to private practice is an established pipeline in my jurisdiction. Lots of levee districts, MUDs, etc. also firms that take on larger projects.

Can’t comment on in house opportunities though I’d imagine you’d be in a position to find out what in house counsel at some of the developers do and if you could slide into such a role at certain companies.

Need advice. I’m at my first job in private accounting. Previous experience is as an auditor. I am struggling to figure out the way JEs are posted at my current company. It’s never straightforward even for simple entries. There’s things like settlements which confuse the crap out of me. I’m curious if it’s just my company or if every sophisticated accounting department will have non traditional ways of posting their journal entries.
