She also needs to make sure she has adequate malpractice insurance coverage. Fwiw I’d say she could get away with charging $150-300 an hour.
Paid side work is usually a big no no depending on your regular employment situation. I’ve been at firms that could have technically required me to pay back a percentage of that paid side work to the firm. Be careful.
She isn’t working. She’s just freelancing and asked what to charge.
It depends on where you are in the world. Someone in NYC can charge a higher rate than idaho.
Make sure your firm approves and is aware.
She’s a freelancer right now not at a firm
It’s for a friend who is not working at a firm. Not for me. She asked what to charge ….
My answer is it depends. My rate from firms that continually send me work is 150-200 but that’s if it’s an ongoing arrangement. I also work it as a % of billable rate to the client.
Per diem as in coverage for other attorneys in court? $150-300, lower range if she’s new
This sounds sketchy to me. Why isn’t the firm contracting with her directly?
$200-450, though I still charge some $100 for very high volume or a good opportunity, but trying to sunset those legacy clients as $100 is just unsustainable
