I’m a high performer, and I know my pace makes others uncomfortable. Leadership uses my output as the benchmark. I never asked to be the example, but now resentment is building. Should top performers slow down for the sake of team morale? I would even know how to start!

Go to a better company to work with other top performers.

Possibly consider redirecting some of that hyper-go-getter “top performer” energy to helping your teammates excel. Leadership is often about inspiring others to achieve more together than any of us can alone.

Exactly right. There is no I in Team. Good management knows this and doesn't pit people against one another. True Leaders will inspire the whole group and promote collaboration, not cause dissention by speaking about one individual alone, that is creating a competition environment which usually doesn't work well in organizations trying to be succesful.

Nah keep doing you. They say, it’s lonely at the top. So, it is what it is. You shouldn’t have to change who you are and how you work for the sake of others.

If you're working at your own normal pace and people resent that, too bad. Ignore it. Don't let bumblers drag you down to their level. If it become untenable, find a better team to work on. But for now you might as well just do what you're doing.

I'm with UR1. Are you certain that the team's resentment doesn't stem from something else? Are you humble about it and or generous with your time? A good leadership team does not choose favorites and realizes that it takes everyone to make a business successful.

I do not think you should slow down for the sake of morale. Do not allow them to put that on you. If they are using your output as the benchmark, that is on them. Nobody can blame that on you.

If you are such a high performer, ask for a raise.

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!

Does anyone have advice on transitioning from insurance to another industry? I am Vice President of a small commercial brokerage- basically I do everything except write the checks. I want to move to a more structured corporate role in marketing or strategy somewhere like American Express or JP Morgan. Any thoughts? Anyone successfully pivoted? I can’t even get an interview outside of the insurance industry. I have 2.5 years experience in insurance, before that I was in restaurant management.

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.
