Even though that one person is leaving, there will still be people present whom you’ll continue to work with. I’d consider going just for that reason.
Go. It doesn't matter if you don't know the person it's being hosted for. You're part of the team now and should put in face time whenever you can.
That's an awkward situation. As it's a team gathering and you're on the team, you should attend. I'll be honest, if I was in your position I'd talk to the organizer and make sure I hadn't been invited by accident. If it was clear that I was welcome, then I would go.
I agree with the person who said to double check with the event organizer and make sure they had intended to invite you. If so, go and enjoy. You might not know that person, but you are a part of the team who is celebrating them.
Rising Star
I would say to go.
