Lots of dogs are allergic to chicken. I avoid it. Look for lamb, beef, salmon etc.
Have you tried the hills science diet sensitive skin and stomach?? It has chicken in it but my dog does not have any issues with it and he definitely had issues on all other chicken based food. If not, try a beef/lamb heavy formulation :)
It’s so strange how different dogs react. I have a dog that has skin and stomach issues... and the Science Diet sensitive skin and stomach made it worse because of the chicken base. My vet recommends the Purina fish-based formula or Nutro lamb.
I feed mine Senior Nutro - Lamb. You could try something similar or they now have brands that are limited ingredients.
I never liked that veterinarians pushed Science Diet. In looking at the content I didn’t see the nutritional value my dog was receiving.
But obviously this will come down to what you are comfortable with.
Actually - it’s not straightforward to tell from the ingredients list if a dog food has all of the nutritional components your dog needs - a lot of producers now add things like blueberries that sound good to people but do nothing for your dog. Check out the article below. After reading that, I switched to Purina which actually employs a veterinary nutritionist (most companies don’t) and doesn’t sub-contract out their manufacturing.
Just some food for thought.

Try other proteins, beef, lamb, duck, fish.
Mine is a mini golden doodle too. He loves the chicken jerky we get from Costco.
Have you consulted with your vet and eliminated other medical causes first? If not, I wouldn’t change his diet before taking him to the vet, diet changes can upset their tummies and confuse symptoms if it is something else making him itch. We had a GSD who was allergic to everything under the sun, and the vet did an elimination diet with him a lot like they do with humans to figure out what was going on. A good vet is your best resource.
My golden is allergic to chicken. She’s on purina pro plan salmon and rice for sensitive skin and stomach. Purina has a nice range of proteins if want to try out the elimination approach with them.
Zignature Pork and some of their other flavors are 100% chicken free. Per my vet, chicken is a surprisingly common allergy.
My Havanese is allergic to chicken! She was itching her ears a lot. We feed her Stella & Chewy freeze dried lamb now among other things!
