I’m genuinely curious why do people still use financial advisors when you could just buy a broad-market ETF, automate contributions, and leave it alone for 20 years? I’ve always wondered if it’s really about peace of mind, accountability, or just outsourcing the stress. Personally, I’d feel a little salty paying a % fee for something I could technically do myself… but maybe that’s just me. What do you all think?

A lot of people just don't want to hassle with it. A lot of my friends and family fit this bill. They're in non-finance fields (healthcare, marketing, law) and don't feel comfortable managing their own investments. They're willing to pay a premium for peace of mind, and while I'm not, I don't fault them for it.

That makes sense. I suppose peace of mind is definitely worth something, especially if investing feels intimidating.

I think it’s easy for us to say this because we’re familiar with finances through work experience and/or formal education. People look to outsource to people who have more professional experience than them.

That's a great perspective. It's a reminder that what feels simple to us can feel overwhelming to others. Outsourcing to someone experienced just removes that burden.

I could manage my own investments but I would rather pay the 1% to never think about my retirement accounts. I’d rather set it and forget it. I check in yearly with them but that’s it. For my after tax accounts I do manage them and focus on index funds and some alternative investments

Need some help figuring out where I stand in the job market and what profiles should I apply for. Here are some of the roles I play in the team:

2. Work on deliverables when the team isn't available, and this happens more often than not because we have a small team.
