I’m in a specialized clinic and I haven't seen a cost-of-living raise since 2022. My performance review was glowing, but when I brought up a salary adjustment, management talked about budget freezes while the CEO just bought a third vacation home. I’m looking at other offers, but I love my patient population. Do I stay for the mission, or do I leave for the money that actually reflects the current economy?

Loving your patients is a reason to be a good provider, but it's a terrible reason to accept a 20% pay cut (inflation-adjusted) since 2022.

I respect you for wanting to work with you patients, but it's a job not a mission. It sounds like they're taking advantage of you, and you probably should get seriously about finding a better job. The job market isn't great now, of course, but you don't know what you'll find until you start looking.

I would not ignore that feeling. I care about the mission too, but I also believe you should be paid fairly. I would explore options seriously and only stay if both purpose and pay feel right.

Your obviously good at what you do.. But you also deserve to be paid to match your abilities. People burnout and leave jobs like this. So even more the reason they should pay you more to allow you to stay financially and so you feel like your talents are recognized and appreciated!!

you will see those patients at the new job i promise! i have for sure!

You add value when you have more experience in different settings and facilities. The patients rotate through the different facilities. Several places in my field shut down. The next place i have served the same individuals in different town. Staying for the patients seems like a unhealthy boundary. The next facility might mean better level of care for that patient. Keep an open mind and keep boundaries, add value and a new software charting system! Likely significant raises in pay!

That's a tough one. I left my well-paid "dream job" because my boss (the CEO) was the most narcissistic and abusive person I've ever met. It broke me to say good-bye to my families, clients and staff. And I also had to swallow a hefty pay-cut to go to a place that actually values their employees. Sometimes money isn't everything.

This is why in certain industries standard time at a job is 3-5 years. Companies will discontinue raises for their current employees, but continue to hire at the going rate. That is how you end up with someone new coming in making more then someone there 10 years. Find something that is willing to always put their patients first and employees next.
