Hey there! Have you tried the AHIMA new graduates job website? When I got my RHIA years ago it’s how I got my foot in the door and that role led me to much better jobs. Also, if you do volunteer work for your local and state chapter for AHIMA that can also lead you to networking into an HIM role. What state are you in?
Hello. I would suggest going to a temporary agency to get the experience. They find the jobs for you. You tell them what expertise and skills you have a they match you to a job. Some places have a temp to hire option where they will hire you on permanently. Some places, if you don’t have a minimum number years experience, the system just auto rejects applicants and no person even sees your application
Thank you because at this point I was about ready to enroll back in school. I’ve been even looking for job fairs that’s pertaining to anything similar too. Thank you for the feedback, I’ll start searching for temporary agency.
Let me know if you’d like to talk to someone in HIT for ideas! Does the school you went to offer any sort of entrepreneurship coaching and placement?
I didn't go with AHIMA, mostly because I felt like requiring a specific program, from specific schools, for specific certifications, that cost %250-%400 more then other Healthcare Management programs struck me as a sham of a scheme. So I tested for and acquires my CBCS. CEHRS, and CMAA from the NHA.
We must have very different job market's, you and I. As I literally had 6 job offers in my for week to ten days of looking here in my area. I had gone back to school and completed my program end of May/early June of 2021. Though to be fair, I had experience from 1993-1999 working in third-party collections when I was active duty in the air force, then billing for regional rural clinics in west Texas immediately after that, until going into engineering from 2000-2020 when I retired at 45 while I wrapped up my online education.
Anyway, I took position with my States Department of Health. I went into a role of Community Health Coordinator, but was asked to take on special project such as reworking all the individual county health departments BDO's and Superbills. Fielding billing question by the regional directors office, and so on.
My ease of finding such things here makes me curious as to what part of the country you are in? Is the job market as a whole tough there?
