LOA and Parental Leave are 2 different things. You’re guaranteed a job coming back form parental leave and don’t need a role/project to come back. LOAs are a different story. Previously, there was a specific 3 month LOA you can come back from and don’t need a role (that may have changed), however, if you were on the longer LOA, up to 12 months, you do need a role to come back and you have a limited time (I think 30 days) to find the role otherwise you are considered to have voluntarily resigned, aka no severance. And I think in both LOAs you have to cash out to PTO balance and don’t accrue more, and you pay ins premiums.
Why do you care whether you have a role if your plan is to exit the company?
File for parental LOA if you're entitled to it, find a new job/resign at the end of your leave. Very simple
