I’m seeing more and more instances in which a CFO brings his team when joining a new company and basically just ‘restructures out’ the existing team regardless of performance or experience. Is that a thing nowadays? I can think of ‘strategic’ scenarios where that would make sense. I‘d appreciate any thoughts on this. Thank you.

The two times I’ve been inserted into an upper management position the existing team “restructured out” themselves in a short time. The jaded side of me feels a lot of energy was wasted trying to sell them on my system just to have them leave anyways. It would have been much more efficient to have a team walk in with me. However, I take pride in making good hires and training people up. It all worked out in the end.

This has almost always been the case, everywhere.

Any ‘regime change’ puts your position at risk, and you’d do well for yourself by figuring out how / if you fit in the new regime asap, and acting in your own best interests accordingly

It makes more sense for them to do that, as it is easier to work with a team you are already familiar with. Leadership changes are rarely good for those sticking around, but you just have to read the writing on the wall while it’s happening.

I have not seen this recently, but that is a shame to hear. I can see how that would be a thing, though. The CFO probably trusts his team and wants to make sure he/she brings in a team they can trust.
