I’m seeing more sites automate data capture and reduce headcount for roles like mine. I have 6 years of experience but worryabout the future. Should I be investing in an eventual career switch?

Aspects are changing, but there are plenty of parts that cannot be automated. Regulatory nuance, protocol interpretation, and decision-making. Switch if you want to. However, you’ll see automation creep in everywhere.

I'd start investing in skills now rather than waiting for the other shoe to drop. The automation concern is real across a lot of industries, not just yours. The people who are going to come out ahead are the ones who learn to work with and master the automation tools, not dig their heels in against them. I don't think you need to make a career change, just get comfortable with these tools and showcase your ability to leverage them to the decision makers in your org.
