Have you thought about changing firms to a local/regional? I hired a guy from PwC who thought he hated audit, but it turns out he just hated audit at PwC; loves it now. Culture can make a big difference.
Sounds like you're sure you hate audit. Time to change jobs then. Just be clear what it is you hate about it so much so you don't make an emotional decision about a new job and end up with some of the same factors there. While you're at it, make a list of what you're looking for. Be very specific and weight each requirement. I use Excel for this. For example, salary = 3, remote flexible on my terms = 1, strong 401K = 1, hosted parties = 4, pays for CPE = 2. Whatever is important to you. Then, as you interview, assign a score to each of these areas per employer. Excel multiplies by your weighting factor and helps you avoid being distracted by sexy things that aren't actually important to you. I know the method is simplistic. I'm not an accountant; you can probably easily decide something more sophisticated. But it's helped me make good job decisions. Good luck!
You have got to get out of audit. Absolute bottom of barrel in pay and work satisfaction.
I’m drowning in audit right now and want to cry
What do you want to do instead? Been there…I’ve met maybe one person in my entire career who genuinely liked audit. Met more than my fair share who drank the company Kool-Aid but that’s not the same thing as liking audit.
I’m DM’ing you.
Real Estate advisory. There are some positions open at other firms and I’m think about applying
