I don't think there's any question that AI tools are going to make copyright law a booming business in the years to come. I've played around a little bit making images in Google Labs' Image FX and the stuff you can come up with is pretty professional. And I have no idea what it's based on, it's "learning" from something, and presumably it was trained on copyrighted material. So if I make something with it, what are the ethical implications? That's an enormous question, and it probably won't be answered in any serious way because there's just too much money to be saved by using these tools.

It’s a gray area for sure. I try to use AI as a tool to enhance my ideas, not to create something from scratch that I didn’t touch. But figuring out what’s ‘ethical’ when it comes to these tools? Still feels messy.
Supeeer messy. I don’t use it for final output, just for in process things. Kind of like a second brain
