Not at all. Most referrals I’ve ever seen have not been hired
I would certainly follow up with them, but a referral does not guarantee any job.
Sometimes an org does need to get through the first round of interviews before continuing on. I wouldn’t panic a week on, but I would still certainly follow up and ask if they have any questions for you and let them know you are still very interested in the position and learning more about the job.
Nope. Maybe it increases your chances to get an interview.
If only. Still need to perform well in interviews.
No, referrals don't guarantee anything (unless you were referred by your dad who is also the CEO of the company). But referrals can get you in the door, and that can count for a lot. There are a lot of people who can't even get in to be interviewed, so just getting through the door is a distinct advantage.
Not anymore. It really used to be though. Referrals are still valuable, don’t get me wrong, but they are just the beginning of trying to get into a job now. A week isn’t terribly long, I’ve had to wait a month or so for a follow up, worth it to follow up, but I wouldn’t be surprised either way.
My wife works in talent acquisition. At our firm, a referral pretty much guarantees an interview. From there, you’re on your own though. It carries no extra weight post-interview.
Not automatic, but it cuts some of the red tape, and definitely gets you a seat at the table. How long you are at that table depends on you.
Much good fortune to you.
Got a referral for a job at SCU and I was invited for a digital interview and immediately behavioural assessment. It's more than a week now after the digital interview and behavioural assessment without hearing from them.
The company I work for, Love referrals so you could look at it in so many different perspective depending what type of employee who is referring you!
Highlights your resume for an initial interview. I applied to a Deloitte job through a referral. Got an email the next day asking for an interview. Ultimately the job was a downgrade salary wise, so I passed. The recruiter said they would get like 500 applicants per posting.
It’s not even an automatic way of getting a call back, automated rejection email or interview… but it does help.
