One thing they don't prepare you for when you're getting into advertising is the extent to which being a cheerleader propels you. I'm not a misanthrope, but I'm definitely not naturally wired for cheerleading and it for sure has had an adverse impact on my career.

DO NOT leave personnel decisions to HR, alone. DO Not rely on the parasitic temp agencies like creative circle and Aquent to do all the work. Get involved. Give a damn.
