Is it possible to be overpaid and completely miserable at the same time? I’m pulling down a solid six figures at a firm that literally nobody in the industry respects, and the culture is so toxic it’s actually affecting my physical health. I’m scared that if I leave, I’ll never find a role that pays this well again, but I’m also scared I’ll burn out before I turn 30. Does anyone have advice on how to pivot to a better firm without taking a massive pay cut?

Clearly since that's exactly what you are. You're going to have a hard time having your cake and eating it too here. The market is awful right now. It's going to be hard finding any role, much less one that comes with the same high pay you're looking for. Most likely going to have to pick between your mental/physical health and a big paycheck.

smart

When I started feeling burnt out, I started applying for jobs and doing interviews just to get a better idea of what other firms are paying. I would suggest to keep applying to see if there are jobs out there that would offer you close to your desired range.

Yes

Pictures this.

You’re 21. Freshly forced to quit your job due to a teachers pet of a coworker. So you are desperately trying to find a job

You’re on indeed. You see a job for State Farm. You apply. You get hired and the salary is based at $35k for a 21 year old in 2017, this is amazing. Especially for my area.

So you start the job. You spend two weeks doing their stupid onboarding. The system won’t mark anything complete. Your boss degrades you. Calls you stupid. Tells you you’re clearly lying about completing the work.

Fast forward to exactly ONE month into the job she comes into your office still degrading you because their system wouldn’t mark things completed. She leaves the door open (my office was also full glass windows so everyone sees what’s about to go down). She starts screaming at you and telling you how stupid you are and how you will never last in adult life. You’ve finally had enough. You don’t say anything. You log out of the system. Grab your purse. Start putting things in your purse (she’s still screaming). She stops. You look at her and ask are you done? She says for now. You say great. (Duck) you. I quit.

She acts shocked. And stands up. You’re also standing up gathering your things. She shuts the door and stands infront of it and says I own you. You will not leave.

You look at your friend who also started working there. She’s big eyes because she knows you are a silent vicious person. You smirk. You take out your earring gauges. Put your phone in your purse and simply smile and tell this 5 foot tall troll of a woman (I’m 5’7 and she requires us to wear heels so I’m about 5’10 with that) anyway you tell this bridge troll she can either move willingly. You can call your father who is a cop and press charges for kidnapping. Or you can move her your dang self.

She laughed and says I won’t do anything.

So you repeat. Still very calmly.

She refuses. So you start moving towards her and basically barrel through her shoving her out the way. She grabs you. And tells you I hope you (unalive) in a wreck on the way home.

You look back and tell her, isn’t that what happen to your son? (He son was unalived drinking and driving). Appalled. She lets go.

You leave.

You never hear from her again. You never get a w2. You report her to not only State Farm. But the IRS.

She lost everything.

So long story short. Yes. You can be over paid and miserable.

Leave.

As cliche as it is, money doesn't buy happiness. I had a stroke at 31 years old and I promise you it was not worth the extra money I had in savings. You have to strike a balance between living a life you can enjoy in the moment and saving for the future.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Is anybody here a notary? And how much are you making from that? Is it a potential side-hustle?

I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

User experience mgr salary? I support six product teams and eight reports. 20+ years experience
