Is the higher salary after a master’s in finance real, or does it just show up on paper while bonuses and promotions still favor experience?

The only master that matters is a top tier MBA. Everything else makes you look better but will not be compensated.

Noted! Thanks for your insight.

My master's degree didn't open up nearly as many doors as I expected it would. I'm glad I did it because it was a personal goal of mine. But I can't say I gained a substantial amount of money because my job didn't require it.

I got my Master's degree and it didn't really increase my salary. I really feel like bonuses and promotions favor experience. I don't feel like getting a Master's is really worth it unless it is for a specific job.

Thanks for the insight. I’ve considered getting my masters but keep seeing most people say it’s not worth it

It gives you skills to operate at a higher level.

If you can use those new skills in your work (or change jobs to use them) then you will get promotions and more money.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
