Yes I think minimum four interviews for most medium level positions. I had HR Mgr of position President of division and director to get my current job took forever as there was Christmas and the national sales meeting during the process.
It seems like the hiring process in all industries has gone through a lot of changes in the modern era. It used to be that people were just trusted to hire someone, now it turns into a convoluted committee effort. It's like nobody wants to stick their neck out and make a decision, so it gets all muddled. I suspect it probably creates an unanticipated consequence and rewards mediocre candidates who manage to offend the least people.
My last interview concluded a month ago and was 4 rounds in total. Felt like I met half the company, and then I never even heard anything back either way. Too many chefs in the kitchen, and no one person seems to be the point of contact or decision maker anymore

Yes, multi-stage interviews have become common, especially in cautious markets. I think companies are risk-avoiding rather than decision-making. Past a point, it stops being thorough and starts signalling internal indecision.
