It definitely seems like there’s a talent gap in commercial lines! I wonder if people are looking for fully remote gigs or better hybrid flexibility? Have you tried targeting professionals from adjacent fields or sweetening the deal with more flexibility? The right perks can make a big difference
Because work from home positions are available.
I’m surprised by this because I’ve heard there are less jobs out there lately for Commercial Account Managers. If the pay as what is fair in the market, I’m surprised you don’t have a lot of interest. Maybe it’s the area you are in ?
It’s true, I’ve seen several posts for Commercial account managers, wanting years of experience and licenses for 50-60k. It’s wild.
I interviewed for a Small Business Unit in NJ and they wanted you in the office three times a week, only gave two weeks PTO, and the salary range was $54-$57k!! I asked about negotiating PTO for compensation and got a flat out NO. It may have been three years since I was in the industry but I’ve been following the industry still, that seems WAY below standards.
As someone who had to WFH since 2016 due to my spouse being in the military, I can tell you a handful of reasons no one wants to commute any more - especially in the insurance industry. #1 - less risk of getting into an accident on my way to or from work. #2 - less wear and tear on my car. #3 - Efficiency. Not having to spend two hours on travel time a day makes me WAY MORE efficient than going into the office. Also makes me a happier morning person since I’m not clawing through traffic to get to work. #4 - more of my wages stay in my pocket. Less $ on gas or on food for lunches, less $ on coffees, teas, etc. #5 - bathroom breaks. Everyone feels way more comfortable going to the bathroom in their own home than in a communal bathroom with co-workers. Hope this helps your company! I happen to be a commercial lines P&C professional looking for work, but I am looking for remote or hybrid work, not looking to spend 10 hours a week in the car on top of 40 hours in the office.
I’m thinking it has to do with pay as well. I’ve seen a lot of job postings that are well below the market rate.
Also, majority of candidates do not want to go into office. I do not foresee that changing anytime soon.
Interesting! I have been applying and have not received any calls for interviews. Willing to go to office, have experience and yet not getting a single call.
