I think over time it will get better. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind.
That’s kind of what it is, but that walk of shame will fade away quickly. You took a chance, and there is nothing wrong with that. Now you have an opportunity to go back to stable and good, nothing wrong with that either. I’ve not had the chance to boomerang back, but I would if it were the best choice at the time for me.

I would go back to any of my last employers. I always left for opportunity, not because of a conflict. But I think it depends on ‘how’ you left.

No shame – companies boomerang employees all the time when it suits them. You're just doing the same calculation they do: better opportunity elsewhere vs. known quantity here.
The real question isn't pride, it's why you left originally. If it was comp/title and they're matching your current salary, great. If it was toxic culture or dead-end growth, going back just resets the timer on those same problems.
Most people who boomerang successfully do it because the grass genuinely wasn't greener, not because they're settling. If your old boss wants you back, you clearly weren't the problem. Just make sure the "safety" isn't code for "avoiding the job search" – that's when regret hits.
i see people boomerang all the time. i did it about a decade ago when i went back to a former agency although i ended up leaving a year later b/c i had the worst boss.
