lol that’s not a bit much AT ALL.
Do you spend the entire day seated? Do you not walk to different parts of your home or around the store or around the office? Those are all steps.
“Defined a new bare minimum” sounds like total BS to justify being inactive. Do some cardio, the steps you take on a treadmill or elliptical or bike count.
Our current sedentary lives are unnatural, not a step goal. 10,000 steps is nothing in an agricultural setting. I think I read that Amish women walk between 18 and 22 miles a day with their workload. While 10,000 is an arbitrary number picked because the kanji for it looks like a person walking, more movement is always better than less movement.
If you're doing a stationary bike or something where you are at least moving great. But walking is considered weight-bearing exercise and has more of a beneficial impact long term.
I was unpleasantly surprised when I first started tracking my steps. I was maybe 3 or 4k average. While 10k isn’t a magic number, it is something to help motivate. I definitely started making more of an effort to get up and walk around more. Just start off like that. Don't feel intimidated by the big numbers!
