I am right there with you. At the beginning of the year my goal was to save 10k by the end of the year. I am no closer to that 10k than I was at the beginning of the year. It is hard to save money when you are living paycheck to paycheck.
Investing 30 percent of my salary. Trying to increase my salary by learning new skills. Spend less than I make and not go into any credit card debt. Rinse and repeat every year and watch investments compound.
A financial advisor is worth it if you have the need. Financially responsible is making more money than I spend, having savings, and planning to retire someday.

The problem with all financial advice is, it assumes you have food and shelter covered, Yeah, good luck with that.
I did better in my 30s than I am doing today. All my hard work, fighting for a decent wage, taking on challenges, being ready to move wherever needed, and I can't keep up with increasing food and housing prices.
It frankly sucks for Millennials and Gen Z. A housing crisis just when elder Millennials should have been in their first homes, followed by an unbalanced recovery, followed by stagnant wages, followed by broken promises followed by a worldwide economic shutdown (just as Gen Z was entering the job market) followed by a glimmer of hope as wages increased, followed by a spike in home and food prices, all accompanied by an insane housing market that saw private ownership crater as everything was bought up by venture capitalists,
So, yeah, don't be so hard on yourself that you don't have a home and $10k in savings. Somedays you just have to be happy that you still remember to breathe.
It's like the universe knows to throw me a problem as soon as I have a little bit of savings built up...
