I’m not going to fault you for feeling this way, although I do agree with the Deloitte poster that it’s probably worth touching grass. You’re still in a great spot. For what it’s worth, so so many people at MBB struggle with their own insecurities (e.g., why don’t I have a job in PE, why didn’t I found a unicorn startup, why haven’t I found that amazing exit, why am I getting managed out, etc.).
The grass is *always* greener and you’re doing great
I have a tier 2 wife a tier 3 labradoodle and a tier 1.5 daughter
My neighbors constantly remind me
So I try to make up for it by driving a tier 1 car and wearing a tier 1 set of boxer shorts
Last night I got some tier 4 sleep so I started reading fish bowl
Is this OK?
Will my set of tiered experiences impress my parents?
Might be my favorite post on fishbowl ever
Is this a real post? Ask yourself what’s the point of existing at all if all paths leads to death and there is nothing after death. Alright, go to bed, every night could be your very last night.
Some people are so broke all they have is money and “prestige”
Assuming this is a serious post - your career won’t be ‘tainted’.
Tier 2 firms still offer solid pay and plenty of amazing exits, and you’ll learn largely the same skillset.
If you’re really dead set on MBB, you can also try to come in later as an experienced hire. This isn’t uncommon (depending on office).
Very few people even land a tier 2 offer, so you’ve still done very well for yourself!

I can sense the LEK energy from afar.

OP: I say this with love: Get a grip.
Seriously. Life is a lot harder than this and I don’t want you to get crushed by your delayed flight in a few weeks or when they spell your name wrong on your take away coffee. You need to toughen up.
Best of luck with it all🙏
I’m assuming this is rage bait (but in case not), as someone who did “make it” to MBB after having worked at a number of smaller firms before (PS - no T2 would interview me at that time so had to go the MBA route), the value prop has significantly eroded over time and you’re really not missing out. Getting to MBB has a luck component, just as staying there has a luck component. Over the last 5 years the firm spends a lot less time developing people, and hires (and fires) in spurts depending on how the market is doing, so you can always come in as an experienced hire in the next wave if this is the only path to fulfillment for you. But once you get there, you’ll realize it’s all the same.
Take what you can from your current role, realize how many people would love to have it, and find fulfillment outside work because the work won’t make you happy.
Trust me, when it comes to consulting the real challenge is exiting. You will struggle to find good exits as much as MBB consultants will. At that point, it’s going to be much more about your experience and ability to sell yourself rather than the name of the company

I don’t think it’s difficult to exit at all. I have recruiters blowing up my inbox multiple times a day
LOL. The sooner you realize that your success - your reputation, wealth, fulfilment, or whatever metric you want to define your success by - comes from how well you do at your current place, not by some made-up tier that isn't real, the happier you and others around you will become in your life.
I get that some people are dead serious and hung up on this imaginary tiering or ranking, but really successful people in their own respective organization don't consider their current org a roadblock.
To get some perspective, ask your high school friends what MBB stands for or what McKinsey does. Almost certainly they won’t have even heard of it. When I joined Accenture, most people I told in my family had no idea what the company was or what we did. “Consulting” itself wasn’t even a real occupation to them because they didn’t know.
You’re doing really great, OP. You haven’t even reached the stage yet where you’ve been a consultant for a year and you’re at the regret, bargaining, and questioning life’s meaning stage!
Everyone at competitive high schools knows what MBB is lol
This world wasnt meant to brag “I’m a MBB consultant”. You’re at a T2 and making more than what 90% of the people in your country makes. Use that to travel and spend it on things and people that make you happy.
Ur in for a Deloitteful career!
D is big 4, not tier 2.
Trust me, if you feel like an actual human and not a robot who’s being overworked, over stressed, and generally miserable at your Tier 2 then thank your lucky stars
Just try banking. Any BB provides more exit opps than MBB
Welcome to the 3.4 B club of non-MBB workers globally. No, our careers are not ‘tainted’ forever. At least, I can be proud that I didn’t contribute to the Opiod crisis or the GAZA plan. Oops ….i spoke out loud.
Seriously, is this even a real post?
Weird flex but ok
Getting an interview doesn’t mean anything anyways. It’s about passing it, you didn’t meet the bar obviously so just work harder and reapply in the future
You’ll be fine. Husband is in PE from a T2. I’m at FAANG from T3.
