It is Tax season and it is making me nostalgic about my very first salary negotiation where I did not factor how tax removal could affect me so much, I was so focused on the gross pay and I think it is one of the overlooked part of salary conversation and negotiation. Anyone also learnt the hard way like me? Recruiters, do you think it is your job to explain how tax will affect take home pay or you feel candidates should figure it out themselves?

I always feel this way around this time of year. I miss the days when my tax situation was simple and I could just do it online in 30 minutes. Now I need an expert and what feels like weeks to handle all of the various complicated tax considerations. I definitely learned the hard way that I need outside professional support with this kind of thing.

Taxes can get overwhelming once things aren’t straightforward anymore. It sounds like you’ve already figured out the smartest move, which is leaning on a professional, that way you save yourself the stress and make sure everything is handled correctly. Honestly, it’s a good investment in peace of mind.

Tax is not a big deal for me. Do you have some unique circumstances? I know the withholdings can be kind of confusing for your very first job. I do not believe recruiters are equipped to lead that conversation, and shouldn’t be expected to be. Too many factors are involved.

Yeah, it was really confusing for me because it was my first job, now I know my way round it.

I did!
Always negotiate because otherwise you end up working for less

Interesting. Let’s see if the uptick In cases continues to drive an uptick in hospitalizations and then in fatalities. Depends on how many of the cases are incidental or in very young people not prone to severe cases. But either way, look at the hospital capacity utilization figures! This is the untold story. Were we bending the curve to avoid unnecessary deaths due to overcrowded hospitals, or were we bending the curve to buy time for treatments and vaccine, or just to slow fatalities?

I’m a prospective UBS employee. I was told by the recruiter that bank doesn’t provide physical machines to employees and that we need to use our personal computer for office work.

1. Is the above stated info correct?
2. Does the bank reimburse laptop cost, if I don’t have a personal laptop/computer?
3. Is macOS compatible?

Any advice for someone in the middle of a merger?

I recently sign a lease. The apartment will put my security deposit into an interest-bearing account and requires me to fill out a form W9. I will join EY this June and just wondering if this is ok in terms of the independence rule. I guess the apartment will put my deposit in some sort of funds. Anyone with EY has experience? Reading the independence brochure, looks like it does not specify something related to this scenario but just wanted to confirm . TIA!
