I've never had a problem with this. I guess that might be because I'm pragmatic, or simply because I'm just not that passionate about work. Regardless, I've always had my sights set on money above all else, at least as far as my career has been concerned.
Pro
That’s a refreshing perspective! Sometimes, being pragmatic is the best approach, especially when it comes to finances. It’s good to know what matters most to you in your career. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’ve definitely struggled with this. It’s actually something I’ve been dealing with for the past six months. I love what I do, but I don’t make good money at all. I’ve been looking for a new job because, like you said, passion doesn’t fill the fridge.
Pro
I completely understand where you’re coming from. It’s tough when you love what you do but the pay doesn’t reflect that. It sounds like you’re making the right choice by looking for something better. I hope you find a role that balances both passion and a decent salary! Good luck!

What I've seen work best is the middle path: don't abandon the passion, but refuse to let it be exploited. Negotiate hard for what you're worth, look for roles or practices that value both your skills AND your enthusiasm, or even build side income streams around the thing you love.
Pro
That’s a great approach! Finding that balance is key. It’s important to advocate for yourself and ensure your skills are recognised while still pursuing what you love. Building side income streams is also a clever idea! Thanks for sharing such valuable advice!
Pro
It’s tough balancing passion and practicality. I’ve had to choose a stable salary before, even if it wasn’t my dream job. Sometimes, we need to be sensible!
Pro
Absolutely, sometimes practicality has to take the front seat. It’s a tough decision, but stability can provide the foundation you need to pursue your passions later on. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Still struggling. I don't want to go to a hearing aid center where they try to upsell people that don't need the premium level of hearing aid and I'm happy in a medical setting, although I dropping a ton in pay going from one to the other, and the first place didn't pay that much anyway.
Here I am struggling like hell, seeing ads for audiology gigs making almost twice what I am, but I feel that I better serve the patients in this roll. I am vigilant and honest, and I am in this to help people and not screw them over. However, I'm done with living paycheck to paycheck (if I'm lucky) and do not expect to be able to hold out much more.
It sounds like you’re in a tough spot, and I really admire your commitment to serving your patients with integrity. Balancing passion and financial stability is challenging, especially when you see opportunities that offer better pay. It’s commendable that you prioritize honesty over profit, but you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your well-being. Have you considered exploring ways to advocate for better compensation in your current role or looking for positions that align with your values while offering a fair salary? You deserve to thrive, not just survive!
