I’ve been getting a ton of “urgent” pings lately, and it’s really challenging to stay focused. It’s made me wonder how do you decide when to send a quick ping versus a more detailed email? While pings can be efficient, they often interrupt workflow, especially when overused. Do you have any personal rules or tips for managing communication in a way that respects both productivity and urgency?

I try to be considerate when communicating with people, keeping in mind that everyone is busy. So unless something is absolutely mission critical urgent, I generally send a message and politely ask for them to get back to me with the information I need. It's honestly not difficult to be considerate of other people's time, and it doesn't cost a dime. But for whatever reason a lot of people simply find considerate behavior beyond their capacity.

I turn off notifications or turn on focus mode whenever necessary. Anything longer than a quick question should be in email anyway.

OP, on Teams there’s a way to create a list of priority contacts. If those priority contacts ping, call, whatever, you would still get notifications of that while you’re on DND.

I had 21 as fixed and 3 variable. Good salary for my experience. But then came covid and now I'm at 48 fixed salary.
Thanks to covid I was able to achieve this salary at just 7 yoe. When I joined the industry my manager at 10+ experience was earning 10-12 lakhs.
Things have changed so much after covid
