For those of you who build websites, how do you display your built sites on your portfolio site? Do you have a page where you mock up the site or do you do a direct link? I currently have both. I’m just trying to figure out the best way for me. Here is my site for reference. The links for the sites are in the menu and below in the gallery. Sarahbellestudios.com

The "entry level but needs 3 years experience" thing is especially bad in design right now. You're probably not doing anything wrong, it really is just that tough. Might be worth looking for roles where UX is part of a more general design role, like at smaller companies that need someone to wear multiple hats.
The simple answer is yes, it's really a very bad time to be looking for work. All the unpredictability in the economy means a lot of organizations just aren't concerned with hiring anyone now. And with all the layoffs in the past year, there are a lot of experienced people looking for work, and they crowd out those who are less experienced. Just persist and hang in, things will turn around eventually.
I offer coaching for aspiring and active design professionals to see their blind spots, strategize personal brand positioning, and critique portfolios and resumes based on your goals. I’ve been in the business 13 years, never been unemployed, 6x my starting compensation, and have a top rating for design mentorship on ADP list. If you’re interested send me a DM for details.
